August 15 - Assumption of Mary - A Catholic holiday that has become a tradition. Mary is the patron Saint of Guatemala City. The official name of the city is Nueva Guatemala de la Asunción. Lots of closures in Guatemala City not necessary the entire country.
September 15 - Guatemala Independence Day - There will be groups of people running through the streets with their Independence Torch and flags. Impromptu parades with lanes of traffic in the streets blocked off to allow the community groups get together and safely run through town wearing mostly white and light blue clothing for the colors of the flag typically originating from the Plaza Obelisco. Lots of vendors on the streets will be selling flags the month of September in preparation for the holiday.
October 20 - Viva Revolution - celebration in the historical zone 1 and bank/government holiday on the first Monday
